1.1 The computer defined
 

In basic terms, a computer is an electronic device that process data, converting it into information that is useful to people.
Or
A computer is an electronic device, which process data and performs different kinds of tasks according to a set of instructions given to it. A computer process data and converts it into useful information that can be used for large number of applications.

Working of computer
Any computer regardless of its types – is controlled by programming instructions, which give the machine a purpose and tell it what to do.
Computers can be categorized in several ways. For example, some computers are designed for use by one person, some are meant to be used by groups of people, and some are not used by people at all. They also can be categorized by their power, which means the speed at which they operate and the types of tasks they can handle.
